Free Thanksgiving Lunch in Cafeteria
The first free holiday focused meal put on by UCC students and faculty will be Tuesday, Nov. 25. The culinary students are preparing a Thanksgiving lunch for students and the community. This will be the first time the culinary program has combined their efforts with the campus to put forth a free lunch.
The food was donated by Fred Myers, Cosco, Sysco and others. The culinary students will be preparing the lunch and the ASUCC officers will be serving it.
“This [meal] clearly represents the strong partnership between our students, staff and community. I am so pleased we are able to serve our UCC family in this way and provide a wonderful opportunity for all of our college community to come together,” Roxanne Kelly, the Vice President for Instruction, said.
The turkey lunch is for students, staff and open to the public. The lunch will be held in the cafeteria from 12 to 2p.m. The culinary program would like students and others attending the lunch, to bring a nonperishable item, if they can afford to. This gives the community a chance to not only give back to the campus but also to others in the future.
Several administration and student leaders came up with this idea as a way to give the students a “going away lunch,” according to the Culinary Program’s chef Steve Cripe. The lunch will include classic thanksgiving foods turkey, ham, stuffing, gravy, mash potatoes and pumpkin pie.
